Characters
At the center of TakeAway are two soldiers stationed at Rally Pointe Delta — best friends, complete opposites, and exactly the wrong pair to overhear a secret worth killing for.
Greg — Captain Emerick
Cautious, earnest, and loyal to a fault. Greg respects authority and protocol, thinks before he acts, and trusts Commander Bradley more than he probably should. His flaw is also his arc: he struggles to say no to Tom, gets pulled into trouble against his better judgment, and slowly has to find the courage to question the system he serves. Wants stability; needs the nerve to act on his convictions.
Tom — Private Emerick (“Gerardie”)
Bored, reckless, and sharp. Tom uses humor and sarcasm as deflection — the running “recount” excuse is pure Tom — but underneath it is a relentless curiosity that drives the whole investigation forward. He is quick-thinking in danger and charming enough to pull a reformed criminal back into one job. Wants to escape the routine; needs to learn that some truths come at a cost, and that his choices land on other people too.
The Dynamic
Complementary opposites: Greg is the brake, Tom is the gas. Greg says “no” and follows anyway. Their trust runs deep but gets strained the moment their curiosity turns into real consequences.
Also in the cast
- Commander Bradley — strict mentor, witty and controlled, complicit in the project, and willing to use lethal force.
- General Bond — a cold, distant voice on the other end of the line who values the sample above all else.
- Vinney — a street-smart hacker who claims he has “gone straight.” The first major casualty of the investigation.
